LOCAL VOICES NEEDED FOR HEALTH WATCHDOG
Hywel Dda Community Health Council is looking to recruit new members to represent the patients’ rights, to strengthen the voice of local people in influencing patient care in each of the local health boards across Wales.
Community Health Councils (CHCs) are independent NHS watchdogs that scrutinise the operation of the health services in their areas. Our members represent the public interest and play an important role in influencing the way that health services are planned, delivered and improved in their area.
CHC members are local people who act as the eyes and ears of patients and the public, listening to their concerns and working with the health service to improve the quality of patient care. Members are volunteers who are asked to give the equivalent of four to five days a month usually in short sessions of normally a few hours at a time. The CHC always works to people’s availability. Out of pocket expenses such as travel are reimbursed.
People from all walks of life, of all ages, are being sought – the most important requirement is a genuine interest in improving health services for your community. Some key skills which would be useful include: an understanding of local health issues; being able to work in a team and with a diverse range of people.
Applications are welcomed and encouraged from all groups and we ensure that no eligible candidate for public office receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion or religious affiliation.
If you have a genuine interest in health services and would you like to make a positive difference then you can help by joining us, your local Community Health Council.
