Christmas Truce 1914…… A talk 29th November St Mary Magdalene Church, Wiston SA62 4PL Wiston, Pembrokeshire
In the lead up to the commemorations next year of the centenary of the start of World War 1 in 1914, Wiston Church will be hosting a special event on Saturday 29th November which will recall a significant and famous moment in that conflict. The meeting of opposing troops on no-mans-land on Christmas Day 1914 for an unofficial truce, with the exchange of gifts, signing of carols and even a football game, has become a landmark moment of history and one which continues to inspire people.
Revd Peter Lewis, vicar of Narberth, is an amateur expert on this famous exchange, and will be coming to Wiston Church to give a talk on the subject. An interesting and inspiring speaker, Peter will no doubt have the audience captivated. Although being held two days before the start of Advent, we will no doubt sing a carol or two as we recall that event, and refreshments will be served. Admission £5 (children free), in aid of Wiston Church funds.
